Being the target of a joke or being called a name may seem funny to others but it can have lasting effects for the victim and others around him. Learning to recognize verbal bullying and then standing up for the victim or for yourself are the first steps in taking a stand.

- It can have negative consequences on the victim’s self-esteem, making him feel bad about his self.
